Nominations open for Clara Barton awards

The American Red Cross of Ventura County has announced that nominations are being accepted for the 2008 Clara Barton Awards.
The deadline for submittal is 5 p.m. Fri., March 14.
Recipients of the awards, which recognize seven Ventura County women who have had an impact on the well-being of the community, will be honored at the Clara Barton Awards Dinner and Gala in June.
Categories include:
•Life Saver of the Year: A woman who has used skills such as first aid, CPR or the AED to save a human life within the past three years.
•Military Member of the Year: An active duty or reserve member of the military who has used lifesaving skills to save a life while on duty or who works to promote community preparedness, emergency health education or safety training.
•Young Woman of the Year: A young woman who has had a significant impact on the wellbeing of her community and peer group.
•Diversity Ambassador of the Year: A woman from an underserved population who has worked to bridge the gap between diverse communities and the network of resources available to meet humanitarian needs.
•Philanthropist of the Year: A woman who, through her philanthropy, has had an impact on the ability of Ventura County's charities. The nominee's efforts should have been sustained over time and helped to set a standard for charitable support in the community.
•Humanitarian of the Year: A woman who has made Ventura County a safer place to live through work in the area of health, safety or disaster and terrorism planning.
•Community Spirit Award: A business leader who has had an impact on the well-being of her community and staff through exceptional leadership.
