Historical tall ships sail into local harbor
Replica appeared in 'Pirates of the Caribbean'

Historical tall ships, Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain, will sail into Ventura Harbor at 5 p.m. Thurs., Jan. 31 and will remain in the Ventura Harbor Village for public viewing from Feb. 1 through 10.

The 1st Company Washington Artillery of New Orleans makes its appearance complete with a replica military camp from 1861 to 1865, including a hospital, butter making, tents, cannons, and a group campfire (Feb. 2 at dusk only) on Sat. and Sun., Feb. 2 and 3 on the Harbor Village Main Lawn. This is open to the public. Guests may also have their pictures taken with an Abraham Lincoln impersonator who will be present in the camp.

The topsail ketch Hawaiian Chieftain is a replica of a typical European merchant trader of the turn of the nineteenth century.

The Lady Washington, famous for her appearance in "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl," is a full-scale reproduction of the original ship built in the British Colony of Massachusetts in the 1750's.

Dockside Public Tours of the ships will take place each weekday from 4 to 5 p.m. (closed Mondays) and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in front of the Fisherman's Memorial, near Andria's Seafood Restaurant in the Ventura Harbor Village on Spinnaker Drive.

Admission for the public tours is free, with donations accepted. Free parking is available at the Ventura Harbor Village.
