Agrees City Council made mistake

This letter is in regards to John Dempsey's earlier letter on Jan. 18.

Thank you, Mr. Dempsey, for your cogent remarks regarding the approval of the massive Springville housing development by the Camarillo City Council.

However, I fear you were too generous towards our council members. After all, this is a City Council who pretends that our quality of life is more affected by the color of our houses, the length of our lawns, and the placement of our vehicles than the overburden on our infrastructure.

As you noted, the council members seem obliged to get their constituents onto the freeway but then wash their hands of all responsibility for the impending traffic congestion. They continue to approve housing developments while the Federal Emergency Management Agency threatens to reclassify much of Camarillo as in a flood plain because our watershed infrastructure has not kept pace with potential usage.

Until congestion, air quality, and water issues are addressed, the approval of these developments is reckless and irresponsible.

Camarillo residents are not antigrowth. But who wants to see their quality of life devalued for the benefit of developers? Fred Burgess Camarillo
