A tip of the hat and a very grateful thank you Few cities in Ventura County have residents like those in Camarillo who not only foster a commitment to volunteerism, but also strive to make their city better for no other reason than honest civic pride. Whether it's on the soccer field with the local AYSO or behind the scenes at one of the city's numerous fundraising events, Camarillo volunteers make it a point to support their fellow residents with a helping hand and a warm smile. For the past 41 years, the Camarillo Chamber of Commerce has worked hard to ensure individuals and businesses committed to the community are recognized for their efforts. On Wednesday night the Camarillo City Council named the winners of the Chamber's Top Ten Community Awards. The pool of candidates was again rich- there were 60 nominations this year, according to the Chamber- and the award winners are a notable bunch. The Camarillo Acorn staff learned yesterday that the newspaper was named Business of the Year. The staff is honored to receive the recognition and expresses deep appreciation to the Chamber and those who nominated us. Below is the list of the people, organizations and businesses that will be honored at a gala dinner March 8 at Spanish Hills Country Club. •Man of the Year: Gary Cushing •Woman of the Year: Kara Partridge •Business of the Year: Camarillo Acorn newspaper •Entrepreneur of the Year: Debbie Rice •Youth of the Year: Greg Punsalan •Volunteer of the Year: Dennis Gaiser •Senior of the Year: Edward Colbert •Public Servant of the Year: Geoff Dean •Educator of the Year: Richard Rush •Service Organization of the Year: Friends of the Camarillo Library With sincere gratitude for being recognized, the Camarillo Acorn congratulates this year's award winners. |
