Jersey Mike's serves up deal for Rio Mesa
Eatery to donate portion of sales to high school

Dan Burrell and Angel Velazquez know what it means to support their hometown team.

The co-owners of five Ventura County Jersey Mike's Subs shops, including the Camarillo location on Lantana Avenue, are once again sponsoring Rio Mesa High School's boys' basketball team by donating a percentage of sandwich sales to the basketball program.

Jersey Mike's will offer a free regular sub sandwich to all Rio Mesa fans if the Spartans beat crosstown rivals Adolfo Camarillo High School at home on Wed., Jan. 30.

A percentage of all sales at their Camarillo store on Thurs., Jan. 31 will go toward Rio Mesa's athletic department.

Burrell said he has been offering the "home team program" to a number of county high schools over the past year and a half, donating more than $5,000 to their various athletic programs.

"We think it's a great program," Burrell said. "We always have kids on our staff who go to these schools, so by giving back to their high schools, you're just helping the whole system out."
