Doesn't like council's vote on development

I am completely disappointed with the Camarillo City Council in its approval of the Springville housing development.

Unlike Village at the Park, this development will be built very close to the 101 Freeway and will only have a small berm to separate the freeway from its residents.

Today from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. northbound traffic on the 101 is crawling, at best, and it doesn't tend to let up until you pass the Central Avenue exchange.

As such, how the Springville area is developed is critical. With 4,000 new residents (2.9 people per residence), traffic will be worse, and Camarillo will continue to be the "bottleneck of the 101."

The city should plan ahead and allow for future 101 Freeway expansion today. This would include four lanes of northbound traffic plus accommodate the possibility of a car pool lane and a dedicated on/ off lane between the interchanges, similar to what Thousand Oaks and Westlake Village have today. This expansion will eventually occur, as the 101 Freeway is the only major coastal route up and down the evergrowing California coast.

Unfortunately, it took only three votes on the Camarillo City Council to degrade the quality of life for everyone in Camarillo and in Ventura County. John Dempsey Camarillo
