Audubon Society to meet in Camarillo

Conejo Valley Audubon Society will have a meeting at 7:30 p.m. Mon., Feb. 4 at the Western Foundation of Vertebrate Zoology, 439 Calle San Pablo in Camarillo.

Taldi Walter will present "From Black to Gold to the Black Oystercatcher: Challenges and Opportunities in Alaska," a slideshow showcasing some of the important natural areas and birds found in wild Alaska.

She will also highlight the imminent challenges and opportunities facing the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, Tongass National Forest, Chugach National Forest and National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska.

Walter joined the National Audubon Society's Public Policy Office in Washington, D.C., as Alaska outreach coordinator after the completion of her master's degree in biology.

•8 a.m. Sat., Feb. 2: Meet at the entrance to Rustic Canyon. Tom Halpin leads a hike to look for cactus wrens, California gnatcatchers, sparrows and bluebirds.
