Police identify shooting victim A 23-year-old Camarillo man was shot and critically injured at about 8:15 p.m. Saturday at a party in the 200 block of N. Glenn Drive in Camarillo, police said. Capt. Jerry Hernandez of the Ventura County Sheriff's Department said Rafael Leon was shot multiple times. He was taken to St. John's Medical Center in Oxnard, where he was listed in critical condition. No one else was injured. Detectives said they believe the Jan. 5 shooting may have been gang-related. Hernandez said the weapon used was not recovered at the scene. Hernandez said the shooting took place at a house where about 100 people had gathered for a family party. Leon was not related to the family hosting the party, police said. According to court records, Leon was convicted in 2004 on battery charges and jailed for a month. He was arrested again in 2006 for petty theft and served 48 days in jail. On Nov. 23, he was cited in connection with a fight in the 300 block of Arneill Road. - Daniel Wolowicz | |||||
