Expand the mind with family friendly activities
Most museum programs free with price of admission

The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County presents the following events for January. Most programs are free with paid museum admission.

•First Fridays: Conscious Minds and the Minds of Others, 5:30 to 10 p.m., Fri., Jan. 4. A talk on how the brain works, dancing to a DJ and performances by local alternative pop groups.

•Critter Club: Roach Appreciation Day, 10 to 11 a.m., Sat., Jan. 12. For children ages 3 to 5 and a participating adult. Free with paid museum admission.

•Earth Expedition Series: The Smallest Majority, 2 to 3 p.m., Sun., Jan. 13. Dr. Piotr Nasrecki discusses tiny animal species. Arrive early and check in with Guest Relations to pick up ticket.

•Family Fun Day: It's Sensational, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sat., Jan. 19. Learn how humans and animals use their senses with scavenger hunts, craft activity and more.

•An Afternoon with Johan Reinhard, 3 p.m, Sun., Jan. 20. Dr. Johan Reinhard lectures on his archaeology work in Peru and will sign his book, "Machu Picchu: Exploring an Ancient Sacred Center."

•Calling All Junior Scientists, 10 to 11:30 a.m., Sat., Jan. 26. For children ages 6 to 8 and a participating adult. Learn how dinosaurs moved and behaved.

•A Serendipitous Dinosaur Discovery, 1 to 2 p.m., Sun., Jan. 27. Dr. Luis Chiappe discusses the Patagonia site where he looked for fossils of avian predecessors and found sauropod eggs with embryos. For adults.
