Presto Pasta to host fundraiser for injured Camarillo CHP officer

Presto Pasta restaurants in Camarillo, Newbury Park and Ventura will donate 20 percent of their sales on Jan. 7 and 8 to raise money for Anthony Pedeferri, a California Highway Patrol officer who was critically injured by a suspected drunk driver last month.

Pedeferri, a father of two and a Camarillo resident, is listed in critical but stable condition, according to Shawna Davison, a CHP spokeswoman.

"He has a long recovery ahead of him," Davison said.

Pedeferri was injured Dec. 19 when the sports utility vehicle he had stopped along the 101 Freeway just south of Padre Canyon Road was struck by a pickup truck driven by Jeremy White, a 20-year-old Paso Robles man.

The crash killed the driver of the stopped SUV and threw Pedeferri from the passenger side of the SUV, where he was talking to the driver, more than 20 feet from the car, police said.

White is suspected of drunk driving, according to investigators.

Davison said Jeff Schuberg, owner of the three local Pesto Pasta restaurants, approached the Ventura area CHP office and asked to hold the fundraiser.

Participating Presto Pasta restaurants include: Camarillo, 1701 Daily Drive; Newbury Park, 1025 Broadbeck Road; and Ventura, 5722 Telephone Road.
