City to update business guidebook
      The guide the city uses to attract new businesses will have a new look next year. The City Council voted unanimously last week to spend $35,000 to update the "Discover Camarillo Community Guide," a 16-page directory of city services and amenities.

Police warn of lottery scams
      The Ventura County Sheriff's Department has issued a warning regarding lottery scams. Residents should be wary of letters or phone calls explaining that they've won something but have to pay taxes or a fee in order to claim the prize. Avoid answering any letters or calls originating from outside the United States, especially Canada or Nigeria.

North or south, this team is tops
     CLEAN SWEEP—The Camarillo Eagles girls' under-16 soccer team earned a championship title at the ninth annual California Youth Soccer Association North vs. South Premier Tournament Nov. 15 and 16 at the Morgan Hill Soccer Complex in Northern California. During the two-day tournament, the Camarillo team won three games, all shut-outs, outscoring their opponents 13-0. Fossils kits make geology lesson a hands-on experience
      The Tri-Club Education Committee of Ventura County has donated two fossil kits to the E.P. Foster Library. The kits are available for lending through any of the Ventura County Library community libraries and can be checked out to teachers and home schooling adults for three weeks.

$250,000 investment could create jobs
      Women's Economic Ventures of Santa Barbara recently received a $250,000 equity equivalent investment loan from Wells Fargo to fund its Small Business Loan Fund, which provides startup and expansion capital to small businesses that do not qualify for conventional bank financing.

It's a dandy of a grand opening
     DECK THE WALLS—The owners of Dandy Walls, a wallpaper store in Old Town Camarillo, cut the ribbon Nov. 15 to commemorate the store's grand opening. Shop owners Manuel Gonzalez-Olmo, holding the giant scissors, and his wife, Karen Montoya, standing beside him, are joined by representatives from the Camarillo Chamber of Commerce. The store offers a variety of wallpaper that the owners say will give the right decorative touch to any style home. Dandy Walls, at 2465 E. Ventura Blvd., is open Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The store also offers custom ordered wall coverings and design consultant services by appointment. Interface receives funding to assist victims of domestic violence
      Interface Children Family Services has been awarded funding to continue providing crisis response for victims of domestic violence. Due to recent state budget cuts, Ventura County was at risk of losing funding to provide immediate assistance to domestic violence survivors.

The Guild opens its doors in Camarillo
      When Marianne and Sam Tangora closed the Crafters Guild in Thousand Oaks last year, their customers were so eager for the store to reopen they helped the entrepreneurs scout for vacant buildings. Marianne said she received as many as 10 calls a week from customers asking when she would reopen the store.

Flynn Road building sold to R&D Transportation
      The Ventura County office of CB Richard Ellis reports that a 4,640-square-foot industrial building at 4036 Adolfo Road in Camarillo was recently sold. The buyer, R&D Transportation, purchased the building for $1.18 million from the seller, Flynn-Adolfo Associates.
