      Tuesday's election results have ensured that the Camarillo City Council will continue to work together for a total of at least 10 years. Incumbents Kevin Kildee and Don Waunch won reelection to the council, while challenger David Schlangen, who ran in 2006, fell short in his second bid for office.

Construction to begin soon on training center
Both fire and police agencies to share 47,600-square-foot facility
      Construction is expected to begin soon on Ventura County's long-awaited police and fire training center in Camarillo. The final construction bids for the $34-million facility are expected by the end of the month. Grading has already begun on the 9-acre parcel at Las Posas and Pleasant Valley roads on the southeast corner of the Camarillo Airport.

Umpire sentenced for molesting girls
      An umpire who molested three players in front of spectators during softball games in Camarillo was sentenced last month to time served in jail and 36 months probation. Stephen Darrick Turner, 45, pleaded guilty Oct. 28 to three counts of misdemeanor sexual battery. He had spent 240 days in jail before being released in December 2007.
