A subject we all care about

Recent editorials from Camarillo Unified have suggested that the best way a new high school would be built in Camarillo would be through the passage of Measure U. I think we all can agree that building a new high school is the subject most people in Camarillo really care about, but I disagree with their conclusion.

OUHSD has a property to build a high school behind the library, right in town. Cam Unified has nothing. On what land would they suggest we build this high school?

OUHSD has plans created already to build a high school and reaffirmed their intention to build one. Cam Unified has a PowerPoint. How insulting is it to show us slides of beautiful pools and tiled foyers, when the reality is that for at least the next 10 years, a significant percentage of our students will be in portables.

OUHSD has teachers. Under Cam Unified the vast majority of existing Camarillo high school teachers would leave. Without these teachers you have nothing.

OUHSD has the money. They already passed their bond and qualify for matching funds from the state. Cam Unified has nothing and won't qualify for matching funds.

OUHSD has actual leaders who get things done. Maybe we don't always agree, but you have to admit they actually get things built. The PVSD board, hoping to become the majority of the Cam Unified board, has divided Camarillo again and again.

I want a high school in Camarillo more than anyone, so I'm siding with someone that has a prayer of providing one. I'm voting "no" on Measure U. Theresa Barraza Camarillo
