Job center announces workshops

The West Oxnard Job and Career Center has announced its workshop schedule for November. All workshops are free and take place at the center, 635 S. Ventura Road, Oxnard. To register for a class, call (805) 3826551.

Computer Basics for Job Seekers will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mon., Nov. 3. Students will become familiar with Windows desktop programs to enhance their job skills.

Resumes that Sell will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tues. and Wed., Nov. 4 and 5. The class will provide hands-on assistance in completing a resume, and cover and thank-you letters.

Explore Your Future/Career Launch will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mon., Nov. 10. Students will take personality assessments and use the Virtual OneStop system to help identify their skills and interests, complete labor market research and develop a career strategy.

Online Job Search Strategies will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tues., Nov 11. The class teaches methods of surfing the Internet for job leads and how to properly respond. Students must bring a completed resume on a 3.5-inch floppy disk.

Winning Interviews will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thurs., Nov. 13. Students will learn the skills needed to make a lasting first impression when interviewing.

Dollars and Sense will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon Mon., Nov. 17. Students will gain an understanding of good and bad debt, credit, spending triggers, budgeting and financial goals.

Power of Virtual OneStop will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon Wed., Nov. 19. The class teaches how to use the Virtual OneStop system to look for work, training or career exploration on the Internet.

Tap into the Hidden Job Market will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thurs., Nov. 20. Students will learn how to initiate contacts and job leads and why networking is important.
