Holidays on a budget
      Halloween is just a week away, but the scary events this past month in the banking and retail sectors have already provided enough frightening news to last a lifetime. It's been horrific. Like many Americans, the residents of Camarillo are feeling lighter in the pocketbook and bereft of their savings.

      For more than 40 years, the community of Camarillo has been discussing the possibility of forming one unified, locally controlled school district to provide seamless K-12 education for our students. When I became involved 10 years ago, I was against unification. Today I am the chair of Camarillo Unified, the citizens group that is advocating for unification.

School unification not the best choice
      Measure U proposes to carve out Camarillo High and a portion of Rio Mesa High from the current Oxnard Union High School District under the auspices of "unification," which in this case would result in a loss of funds across the board while simultaneously increasing overhead.
