St. John's Seminary recognizes alumni
Dinner event is a first for Camarillo landmark
      The Distinguished Alumni Dinner honoring five longtime Catholic leaders on Sept. 21 raised more than $40,000 for St. John's Seminary. The evening included Solemn Vespers in St. John's Seminary Chapel presided over by Cardinal Roger Mahony, followed by a wine tasting reception and dinner in the seminary's refectory.

Nobel prize nominee, Jesuit to speak
      The Rev. John Dear, a Jesuit priest, will speak at 7 p.m. Sun., Oct. 12 at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Las Posas and Crestview, Camarillo. Dear was nominated for the 2008 Nobel Peace Prize. Dear will speak about his lifelong quest for peace.

Sermon based on 'Mary Poppins'
      Dr. Jim Decker-Mahin, senior pastor, will present "Mary Poppins," a new sermon in word and song based on the 1964 movie, at the 9 and 10:30 a.m. services Sun., Oct. 19, at Camarillo United Methodist Church, 291 Anacapa Road.

Ensey called to the Torah
      Gabrielle Ensey was called to the Torah as a bat mitzvah on Sat., Sept. 6 at Temple Etz Chaim in Thousand Oaks. She is an eighthgrade honor student at Los Primeros School and the daughter of Diane and John Ensey of Camarillo.
