Medical facility bad for Camarillo

As a real estate broker and a resident of Ventura County since 1972, I can remember the days when Camarillo was unfortunately thought of as the place where the "Camarillo State Hospital is."

The day I attended a grand opening party at California State University Channel Islands was a great day.

Now, just when Camarillo is beginning to have its reputation changed, it may well become known as the place where the "Camarillo Prison Hospital is" or worse yet "where the mental prison is located."

That will do wonders for our real estate market.

On another note, Scientific American magazine in a 2005 article deemed Ventura County the top agricultural climate in the nation. It wasn't from Thousand Oaks or Newbury Park or Ventura that earned us that recognition but Camarillo and the fertile Oxnard plains. We have an ideal climate for growing crops, not for housing criminals. Kevin Harvey Camarillo
