Native American powwow this weekend
      Redbird's Children of Many Colors Native American Powwow will be held Fri., July 18 through Sun., July 20 on the athletic field at Moorpark College, 7075 Campus Road, Moorpark. The event will feature Native American arts, crafts, food vendors and nonprofits.

Shelter to host day of adoption
Last year, nearly 130 animals were adopted at event
      Joy Nadel and her husband, Craig, are on a mission to save animals from being euthanized. The Woodland Hills couple do their work through a 10yearold nonprofit called Rescue Me Inc. and an increasingly popular pet adoption marathon that has been held for the last three years at the Camarillo Animal Shelter.

Citizen's academy now open
      The Camarillo Police Department is accepting applications for its 19th citizen's academy program, beginning Sept. 9. The program is a 12-week course designed to give citizens an overview of the police department's functions and operational procedures.
