     Although the Los Angeles Lightning basketball team finished the regular season with a disappointing 9-11 record, recent additions have made the squad a threat heading into the International Basketball League West Playoffs beginning tonight in Seattle.

Area field hockey team posts solid results at California Cup Tournament
      SPECIAL GROUP- The Ventura County Select U-16 girls' field hockey team finished second in its pool and fifth overall at the California Cup Tournament, losing only to the West Vancouver (Canada) Bulls, who won the championship. This was the best outing for U-16 Ventura girls' squad in recent memory.

Eagles say 'aloha' to title in Hawaii
      The Camarillo Eagles U-17 girls' team advanced to the title game at the U.S. Youth Soccer Far West Regional Championships in Honolulu last Sunday. The locals, however, were unable to secure the title after drop ping a 1-0 decision to Slammers FC of Newport Beach.
