Aviation association gives $15,000 in college scholarships
Money for students majoring in flight- or engineering-related fields
      Steve Kivo has seen his dream come true. For some time, the Camarillo resident, scholarship chair for the 260-member Camarillo chapter of the Experimental Aviation Association (EAA), has wanted to financially encourage young people to take to the sky and learn to fly.

Literacy program helps woman earn citizenship
      Jaruwan Hongsunirandorn, who goes by "Sue," moved from Thailand to the United States in 1992. On April 28 she passed the citizenship test, and last Thursday she officially became a U.S. citizen in a ceremony in Los Angeles.

Foundation engineers robotics contest
Students will build and program robot themselves
      Robert Wagner hopes building and programming a foothigh robot made of children's connecting blocks will deepen the interest his 10-year-old son Colin has in science. Colin is a member of the Santa Rosa Technology Magnet School robotics team, one of 19 teams that will compete in Camarillo's First LEGO League Tournament in November.

Keeping an eye on the neighborhood
      Keith Baker thought maybe a dozen or so of his neighbors would show up at his house one February evening to learn about starting a Neighborhood Watch program. More than 25 came. "I didn't expect many people to really pay attention to what we'd done," Baker said of the 44 invitations he and his wife, Bonnie, had given to residents on their street.
