Frontier High grads celebrate their success

      Sixteen years old and Frontier High's Top Scholar, the valedictorian equivalent at alternative high schools, Angeline Gonzales is among a rare few. Only a few months ago, though, the teenager, who had attended four high schools in less than three years, was nearly sidelined by stress and peer pressure.

      Not long ago, Amanda Ruiz didn't care if she finished high school or not. She had left her friends behind at one high school after transferring to another to escape a threatening exboyfriend. Without her friends, she lost interest in school and misbehaved in class to get the teacher to kick her out.

Rio Mesa grads offer their personal stories
      Gerald "Gerry" Cobian wants to care for the body and soul of others. He plans for a career as a Christian missionary and registered nurse. "That's like my dream right there," the 18-year-old said. Cobian plans to travel, at his own expense, with a religious group to northern Uganda on June 23 to help finish construction on a school.
