      Kathleen Scott wants to do everything in her power to fight Krabbe leukodystrophy, what she calls a "cruel, hideous disease." Scott's daughter Jacquelyn died of the degenerative nervous system disorder on Feb. 10, 2007, five months before her fifth birthday.

Group wants mentoring program for foster girls
Survey shows that along with housing, it's a critical need

      A volunteer group wants to match mentors with young women aging out of the county's foster care system and is asking agencies capable of sustaining such a program to step forward. The 70-member United Women's Leadership Council wants organizations to submit proposals between April 21 and May 23 to the United Way of Ventura County.

We are the champions
      FANTASTIC- The Camarillo Field Hockey Club's girls' under-19 team captured the championship at the University of the Pacific's annual 7-versus-7 tournament in Stockton, Calif. last weekend. This is Camarillo's second championship in the six years they have attended the event.
