Fiesta nets $15,000 for nonprofits The Camarillo Street Fair and Fiesta raised more than $15,000 during its three-day run in July, according to event organizers. Mike Morgan, Camarillo City Councilmember and cochair of the nonprofit Camarillo Fiesta Association, donated checks to various Camarillo nonprofit and school groups at Adolfo Camarillo High School on Tues., Dec. 18. Pleasant Valley School Foundation, Save Our Kids Music and the Senior Hot Meals Program each received $4,000 from the Camarillo Fiesta Association. The group also donated $1,500 to the Adolfo Camarillo High School football team and gave $1,500 to help pay for band uniforms. "The money raised is given to educational programs in Camarillo," Morgan said. The three-day Camarillo Street Fair and Fiesta held in the summer has been a staple in the city since 1964. Morgan has served as co-chair since 1997, alongside Todd Terres. "It is a party for the city." Morgan said. The weekend event attracts upwards of 50,000 people from Camarillo and surrounding areas. The money raised is donated to help programs in the community. The remaining money, after donations, is put toward the finances for next summer's fiesta. - Andrea L. Minium |
