Women encouraged to apply for awards

Soroptimist International of Camarillo is accepting applications for three awards. Deadline to apply is Tues., Jan. 15.

•The Women's Opportunity Award is usually around $2,500. The applicant must be a woman who provides the primary financial support for her family and who is enrolled or has been accepted to a vocational/skills training program or an undergraduate degree program. A letter of recommendation is required.

•The Violet Richardson Award recognizes girls ages 14 to 17 for community service. The applicant must have demonstrated initiative in identifying a problem and trying to solve it and must be someone who has had accomplishments as a volunteer. To apply, submit a 750-word essay. The winner will be honored at a breakfast meeting in April. The organization the winner volunteers for will receive a cash award.

•The Make a Difference for Women Award acknowledges women who are working to improve the lives of women or girls.

Awards begin at the club level. The recipient is then eligible for additional awards at other levels.
