Unusual art exhibition skates into Camarillo
'In many ways this is an unheralded medium.' - Luke Matjas

CSUCI Exhibitions gallery in Camarillo is showing the group exhibit "Hang On To Your Ego: Visions of California through Skateboard Art."

The show will run through Fri., Jan. 25 at 92 Palm Drive in Old Town Camarillo.

Regular gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The show features new artwork created by Cal State Channel Islands faculty, alumni and students.

"What makes the show unique is the fact that all of the artworks have been custom designed and printed on actual skateboard decks for the exhibition," said Luke Matjas, assistant professor of design in the CSUCI art program and exhibit curator. "The surface and shape are very distinctive. In many ways this is an unheralded medium, especially in a prototypical art gallery, but nevertheless it's naturally suited for this subject matter."
