Emergency funds available to county agencies

Ventura County has been selected to receive funds for supplementary emergency food and shelter programs in the county.

The local board will determine how the funds will be distributed to qualifying agencies requesting funding.

Public or private agencies interested in applying should call Nancy Older at United Way of Ventura County, (805) 4856288, ext. 227, to request an application.

Under the terms of the grant, local agencies selected to receive funds must:

•be private, voluntary nonprofits or units of government

•have an accounting system

•practice nondiscrimination

•have demonstrated the capability to deliver rental assistance/eviction prevention assistance or emergency food and/or shelter program assistance

•have a voluntary board (if a private voluntary organization)

The Local EFSP board will complete an official review of submitted applications and schedule a site visit during the week of Jan. 7, 2008, for eligible applicants.

The deadline for submitting applications is 5 p.m. Wed., Dec. 19.

Deliver or mail the original application and 20 copies to the United Way Office, 1317 Del Norte Road, Ste. 100, Camarillo, CA 93010, Attn: Nancy Older.
