Six midtown homes burglarized
Police: lock doors, report suspicious activity
By Daniel Wolowicz camarillo@theacorn.com

Daytime burglars have struck six midtown Camarillo homes in the past month, prompting the Camarillo Police Department to warn residents to lock their homes and report any suspicious activity to police.

The six burglaries- from Nov. 27 to Dec. 12- have all taken place between 6:50 a.m. and 4:10 p.m., police said.

Senior Dep. Mario Aguilar, a detective with the Ventura County Sheriff's Department, said the burglaries may be related because of their proximity and the times they are committed.

On Nov. 27, a home in the 1100 block of Eston Street was burglarized sometime between 11:30 a.m. and 3:45 p.m.

The burglar stole a 50-inch plasma television, a computer, cash, a digital camera, jewelry and a cellphone, according to police.

The following day, burglars used an unlocked slider door to enter a home in the 900 block of Dara Street between 10 a.m. and noon.

The thieves stole a 46-inch television, a computer and a video game console, police said.

A home in the 1000 block of Centennial Avenue was burglarized Dec. 4 sometime between 7:20 a.m. and 4:10 p.m. A video game console was stolen, according to reports.

A thief entered a home in the 2800 block of Wendell Street through an unlocked window Dec. 7 sometime between 6:50 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

The burglar stole a computer, a camera, a laptop computer, currency and jewelry, police said.

Other homes that had large electronics stolen in the past two weeks were in the 1800 block of Kendall Avenue on Dec. 11 and the 1900 block of Weston Circle on Dec. 12.

Senior Dep. Bob Maclean, a crime prevention officer, said residents should call police immediately if they notice any suspicious activity.

He said residents should never enter their home if they suspect a robber is inside.

"Don't enter if you believe they're in there," Maclean said. "Call the police immediately, either from a cellphone or a neighbor's house. You never know if a burglar is armed."

Maclean said the police department also offers free home security surveys.
