CAPE to host open house
Charter school to begin second year

The Camarillo Academy of Progressive Education will host a kindergarten open house at 10 a.m. Thurs., Dec. 13 at 380 Arneill Road in Camarillo.

Parents of children who will be kindergartners in the 2008-09 school year can learn about CAPE and meet Superintendent/Principal Janet Kanongata'a and the teachers. Refreshments will be served.

The public charter school has a progressive educational program.

Special programs include mini-courses, Junior Great Books and Everyday Math. Parental involvement is a requirement in the school.

CAPE, a charter school through the Oxnard Union High School District, currently has 350 students in kindergarten through eighth grade.

Tours for prospective parents will be given on Mondays and Thursdays in January, February and March. Spaces in the 2008-09 kindergarten classes will be allocated by a lottery on March 14.
