Soroptomists: Thank you The members of Soroptimist International of Camarillo want to personally extend our sincere thanks to the community and to those who helped so generously to make our annual Community Enchilada Sale a huge success. The proceeds from the sale will fund our many projects, including local scholarships. One very near and dear to our hearts is the "Amy Durst McAvoy Scholarship," established for a very beloved longtime Camarillo resident and club member. This scholarship is given to a woman studying in the math/science field at California State University Channel Islands. Our "Women's Opportunity Award" aids a woman re-entering the work force in supporting her to gain additional skills, training and education to improve her economic status. Another program is the "Violet Richardson Award" specifically designed to encourage girls ages 14 to 17 to volunteer in their community, school or charitable organization. These last two awards are in accordance with the Soroptimist guidelines. Our club takes pride in the service projects it funds throughout the year. It is with a grateful heart that we acknowledge our outstanding members, friends and businesses in our county who gave so generously: Martin Ledesma and his fabulous crew at Chili Peppers Restaurant, Gills Onions, and Boskovich Farms. And to all of you who ordered and enjoyed your enchiladas, we appreciate you! The heart of the Soroptimist mission is to make a difference for women and children through service, both locally and globally. Founded in 1921, Soroptimist International of the Americas is a volunteer service organization for women in business, management and the professions. Interested in joining this dynamic group?
