Harrison Industries celebrates 75 years
Family owned trash company was founded in 1932

DIAMOND ANNIVERSARY- Former Camarillo Mayor Jan McDonald stands with Harrison Industries vice presidents Myron Harrison, left, and Jim Harrison, right, during Harrison Industries' 75th anniversary celebration at Gold Coast Recycling and Transfer Station in Ventura. The family owned waste management company began in 1932 and runs trash and recycling trucks in Camarillo, Ventura, Ojai, Fillmore, Santa Paula and the city of Carpinteria in Santa Barbara County.
Harrison Industries, which serves Camarillo as E.J. Harrison & Sons, is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.

On Nov. 27, Harrison held a party at the Gold Coast Recycling and Transfer Station in Ventura. More than 200 people attended, including Assemblymember Audra Strickland (RWestlake Village), Ventura County Supervisor Kathy Long and Camarillo Mayor Jan McDonald.

Harrison presented plaques to its city clients, including Camarillo, for surpassing the recycling mandates of Assembly Bill 939, the 1989 state law that requires each city and county in the state to halve the amount of solid waste sent to landfills.

While the statewide average stands at 52 percent, cities served by Harrison have the following diversion rates: Ventura, 66 percent; Fillmore and Carpinteria, 60 percent; Camarillo and Thousand Oaks, 56 percent; and Ojai, 53 percent.

Harrison also presented plaques to the county of Ventura, California State University Channel Islands and the Ventura Unified School District for their recycling efforts.
