Blockbuster scam targeting residents

Police are warning the public of a new telephone scam.

Several Camarillo residents have received calls from someone claiming to work at Blockbuster Video on Pickwick Drive.

The caller says that video rentals are overdue or that DVD discs were damaged when returned. The caller then tries to get credit card information to pay for the unreturned or damaged discs, police said.

Many of the people who have received the calls don't have rental accounts with Blockbuster Video.

Police caution residents to give out personal or financial information over the telephone only when they initiate the telephone call. It's also important to make sure the person on the other end has a legitimate need for the information and will take the proper measures to ensure the information is kept confidential. - Michelle Knight
