Calle La Roda apartments slated to open in January

OPEN SOON- Rents for the Calle La Roda apartments will start at $600 a month.
Douglas Tapking, head of the Ventura County Housing Authority, confirmed earlier this week the 13-unit affordable housing project at the corner of Calle La Roda and Ponderosa Drive will be ready by early January.

Tapking said the construction of the $4.8-million apartment complex is on schedule and will be completed on budget.

"The builder has just been doing an outstanding job," Tapking said, referring to Ventura-based Staples Construction Company. Crews broke ground on the corner lot in early March.

The apartment complex, Tapking said, was financed mostly by $3 million in state tax credits. The remainder of the project's funding, finalized in February, comes from the city, a bank loan and the housing authority.

Both two and threebedroom apartments are slated for families making between 30 to 60 percent of the median income.

Tapking said rents will range between $600 to $1,050.

The area housing authority will soon begin taking applications for tenants. To apply, call (805) 480-9991, ext. 405.

Other properties under the area housing authority in Camarillo include: Ellis Terrace, a 27-unit development on Temple Avenue for low-income families; the 304-unit Mira Vista Village Senior Apartments on Ponderosa Drive; and the 18unit Bradford Apartments on Calle La Sombra and Ripley Street.
