Go back in time at Seaside Highland Games
Bagpipers, battle-axes, reenactment of Middle Ages

The Seaside Highland Games will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sat. and Sun, Oct.13 and 14 at the Ventura County Fairgrounds, 10 Harbor Blvd.

The games will officially begin with the Grand Parade at noon on Saturday. The athletic events include the lifting and throwing of stones, weights and cabers. Men and women will be competing in several different classes, including novice.

Bagpipers and other Scottish/ Celtic musicians will perform. Dance competitions and children's activities are also featured at the games. Demonstrations will include herding dogs and sword and battleax reenactments of the Middle Ages.

Tonight, as a prelude to the games, Four Points Sheraton will host a single malt whisky tasting, a buffet supper and a Scottish fashion show. Alex and Highland Way will perform.
