Student project helps bring city's past into present

SHARING STORIES- Adolfo Camarillo High School student Kimberly Schwander, 15, above, chats with Jane and Stephen Brewster as part of a school history project last Sunday at the Pleasant Valley Historical Society in Camarillo. The reception was the first step in a community service project called "Doors to Our Past," a program involving more than 100 high school honor students who will meet with Camarillo's founding families and its first businesses owners to learn more about the city's past. The students will interview and research the families and use their findings to create artwork, decorating antique, free-standing doors that will be presented to the city, families and businesses during Scorpion Showcase night in April. Above right, Camarillo Mayor Emeritus Stan Daily shares stories with Lori Pristera about his family and their contribution to the area's history. Pristera, a Camarillo high school English teacher, brought the project to Camarillo. Right, Adele Walsh talks to high school students about her family. Walsh is a descendant of the Ortega and Flynn families, both of whom helped establish Pleasant Valley.
