District looks at budget The Pleasant Valley school board learned recently that the district has $5.2 million in the general fund. Based on an accounting snapshot taken on June 30, district staff reviewed the 200607 budget with trustees earlier this month. Staff said the district has nearly $1.6 million in a reserve fund. School districts are required by law to have a 3 percent reserve fund available for economic uncertainties. The district's largest source of revenue was $662,000 from Proposition 20. In 2000 voters approved increasing by half the amount of money schools receive from the state lottery. Schools must use the money to buy instructional materials. - Michelle Knight |
