GENEROUS GIRL- Emily Platt, 8, came to the Camarillo Library on Monday to meet Youth Librarian Chris Culver and unload boxes of more than 40 books she collected from her friends at her birthday party this year. Emily asked each of her friends to bring a book to donate to the library instead of a present, in keeping with a family tradition of birthday philanthropy. In previous years, she has asked for donations for St.John's Regional Medical Center, the Pleasant Valley Hospital, and Casa Pacifica. "We also do a lot of philanthropic work through our Temple," said her mother Robin Platt. "So this is all part of teaching her about giving back to the community." The donations were mainly children's books, but adult titles were also included.
