Strike up the band, bring the kids to Oktoberfest
Festivities on tap include live entertainment, giant sling shot and a petting zoo

The Newbury Park Rotary Club will present the 21st annual Oktoberfest from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sat. and Sun., Sept. 29 and 30 at Underwood Family Farms, 3370 Sunset Valley Road, Moorpark.

The two-day Oktoberfest will feature a 25-piece German band, the German dance and musical group Tänze der Gemütlichen Schuhplattler and the Spirit Cloggers.

Other performers include, on Saturday afternoon, The Five Second Rule playing contemporary rock.

On Sunday afternoon, The British Brass Band will play.

Both days will include a bestdressed Bavarian (lederhosen and dirndls) costume contests and stein-holding and beer-drinking contests.

Prizes will be awarded to all winners.

Family activities at Underwood Farms include a petting zoo, giant sling shot, pickyourown pumpkins and a free hay ride with every entry ticket.

Authentic German food served will include bratwurst, sauerkraut and strudel, as well as a full food court for a variety of tastes.

Piller's two-fisted pretzels will be flown in from Germany. Oktoberfest 2007 beer mugs and Bavarian souvenirs will also be for sale.

Besides the main stage, a Showcase Stage will feature The School of Rock performances from 9 a.m. to noon both days and the Coveralls on Sunday afternoon.

The cost is $8.50 for adults; kids age 2 and under are admitted free.

Parking is free.
