St. Columba's plans annual pit barbecue

St. Columba's Episcopal Church will host its 49th annual pit barbecue from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sat., Sept. 22 at 1251 Las Posas Road, Camarillo.

The menu will include deep pit barbecue beef, homemade beans, bread, salsa, salad, dessert and beverage. Beer and wine will be available for an additional cost.

The event will feature a silent auction, children's activities and live entertainment by The Aristicats.

Diners may order packages of beef to take home and carry-out dinners will be available.

In cooking the beef, the chefs coat the meat with barbecue

sauce, wrap the meat in foil and burlap, and then steam the beef atop hot coals underground for 18 hours.

Prices are $10 for adults, $9 for seniors age 65 or older, and $5 for children age 12 or younger. Children from 5 eat for free. Tickets are on sale at the church or maybe purchased at the door.
