Museum to offer variety of events this month
Lineup includes Critter Club, Native American Powwow

The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County will present various activities during September. The museum is at 900 Exposition Blvd., Los Angeles. Tickets are $9 for adults, $6.50 for students and seniors and $2 for children ages 5 to 12. Admission is free the first Tuesday of every month. Museum hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends and holidays.

The Critter Club will explore the "watery wilderness" from 10 to 11 a.m. Sat., Sept. 8. Children ages 3 to 5 and an accompanying adult will learn about fish, turtles, alligators and otters. Admittance is free with paid museum admission; activities are on a first come, first served basis. For information on Critter Club, call (213) 763-3230.

During the excavation of the La Brea Tar Pits, visitors can watch from a viewing area as Page Museum paleontologists and volunteers excavate Ice Age asphalt deposits. Pit 91 viewing station is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Entrance is free. Pit 91 closes Sun., Sept. 9.

A prop exhibit inspired by the film "Night at the Museum" will run through Sun., Sept. 16 in the Director's Gallery.

The 14th annual Hart of the West Native American Powwow will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sat., Sept. 22 and Sun., Sept. 23 at the William S. Hart Museum in Newhall. Music, vendors, food and dance will be among the activities available. For more information, call (661) 255-9295.

The Spider Pavilion will be open from Sept. 23 to Nov. 4 in the South Lawn habitat. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 students and seniors and $1 for children ages 5 to 12. Tickets are sold in half-hour time slots throughout the day. Free admission for members.
