32 arrested on DUI charges during Labor Day weekend During Labor Day weekend, Ventura County police officers arrested 32 people on suspicion of driving under the influence, down from 66 arrests over the same amount of time during the Memorial Day weekend. No one has died at the hands of a suspected impaired driver, said Senior Officer Humberto Jimenez of the Oxnard Police Department, campaign coordinator of the Avoid the 14 law enforcement campaign. Avoid the 14 held a cooperative sobriety checkpoint in Port Hueneme on Friday night, screening 889 cars, administering six field sobriety tests and making five DUI arrests. Officers towed 21 cars and issued 34 citations. Avoid the 14 is funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It joins 34 others in the state. |
