Camarillo firefighter loses battle with cancer

Camarillo firefighter Steve Gregory, 46, died Sun., Aug. 26 from complications of cancer.

Gregory, who joined the Ventura County Fire Department in 1998, worked the last eight years as a firefighter in Camarillo.

"Steve kept everybody happy and laughing," fire Capt. Steve Winter said. "His sense of humor will be missed around the firehouse. He was a true firefighter to the heart."

Gregory is survived by his daughters Ande and Steve Rae; their mother, Robin; his parents, Thelma and Albert Gregory; and his sisters Barbara Price and Tresa Gregory.

Services will be held tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. at the Camarillo Community Center, 1605 E. Burnley St. in Camarillo, followed by a barbeque at noon in Freedom Park.

The family requests donations be made in the name of Steve Gregory to the Esophageal Cancer Awareness Association, P.O. Box 7327, Ventura, CA 93006, or to Relay For Life Camarillo.
