Vice President for University Advancement Mario J. de los Cobos of California State University Channel Islands has announced that he will retire from his post at the end of this year.
De los Cobos has been with the university since 2002. During the past five years, he has played a key role in the passage of state Proposition 1D, which brought nearly $62 million to CSUCI for infrastructure improvements; the creation of the university's Alumni and Friends Association and the Business and Technology Partnership; and the acquisition of funding to launch CSUCI's nursing program.
"The team effort the university made to gain the resounding support for Prop. 1D from the community members in Ventura County is one of the highlights of my time here," said de los Cobos.
"It's the relationships and support from students, campus colleagues and from community members and friends of the university that I will miss most."
De los Cobos is a graduate of Cal State Los Angeles.
He served as a Level One reserve police officer for the city of Glendora for more than seven years.
Upon his retirement from the university, de los Cobos and his wife, Eileen, plan to relocate to Arizona.
