The 22nd annual Prudential California Realty Golf Classic is set for Thurs., Aug. 9 at the Moorpark Country Club. Golf tournaments used as fundraisers for worthy causes are nothing new, but the nature of the scholarships awarded by this event i s unique. They are called "Spirit of the Community" awards.

The scholarship recipients, graduating seniors from local high schools, are young adults who are supportive of their community, demonstrate strong leadership qualities, and organize or contribute significant involvement in community activities. One individual in each graduating class from eight schools will receive the award, along with a grant for $2,500 toward their first year of college.

Last year, scholarships were awarded to Agoura, Oak Park, Westlake, Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, Adolfo Camarillo, Oxnard, and Moorpark high schools. In addition, this year Fillmore High School is a new recipient of $1,000.

Local business owners are invited to get involved in the tournament by becoming sponsors. There are several opportunities. One would be to contribute a raffle prize, silent auction item, or gift certificate from your business. The company's name will be listed in the 2007 Prudential California Realty Golf Classic program and in the Ventura County Star as a contributor.

Another possibility is to donate funds. The sponsors are tiered, with "Top Rock" sponsors of $2,500 down to "Rock Solid" sponsors of $200. Each level holds an impressive list of advantages, all of which will be explained when contacting the central committee member listed below. Yet another opportunity is the purchase of cruise raffle tickets. The grand prize is a 7-night cruise for two to the Mexican Riviera or other destination of equal or lesser value. First prize is a flat screen HDTV, and second prize is $250 in cash. You can opt to purchase the tickets for yourself, for clients, family or friends. Ask the committee member for further details.

The 2006 Golf Classic was a tremendous success and raised over $40,000. There will be a $10,000 putting contest sponsored by Prudential Partners Affirmative Escrow and The PCR Media Center. A prize of $5,000 will go to the winner while $5,000 will go to the scholarship fund.

Your participation is valuable and appreciated. Prudential California Realty owner/broker Bob Majorino reminds everyone that our investment in today is what will make all the difference in tomorrow. The management, staff and agents of Prudential California Realty believe that supporting local schools will pay huge dividends, reaffirming a strong commitment to the local community.
