Preschool kicks off in Rio District Beginning this school year, the Rio School District will offer an academic preschool program at each of its six elementary schools. The program is for children ages 3 to 5 who live within the district boundaries. The Rio School District serves the unincorporated community of El Rio, the RiverPark development and portions of Oxnard. The preschool program is free or low-cost to families within the district. Each school site has its own selection process and set of enrollment qualifications. Priority will be given to 4year-olds and children whose families meet state and federal poverty income guidelines. The program will include halfand full-day sessions, depending on the site. Class sizes will range from 20 to 24 students, with a maximum student-teacher ratio of 10 to 1. The district is partnered with the Ventura County Office of Education, the Rio Neighborhood for Learning, Child Development Resources and Child Development Inc. Funding is provided by the state Department of Education, the federal government and First 5 Ventura. For more information, call the district office at (805) 485-3111 |
