Cabaret at CLU benefits Shakespeare company "Stars in the Sun: A Cabaret Benefit for the Kingsmen Shakespeare Company" will take place from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sun., Aug. 5 in the Preus-Brandt Forum Theatre at California Lutheran University. Company members will perform contemporary musical theater standards, original music and comedy. Performers include Marc Silver, J.J. Rodgers, John Slade, Anne Lockhart, Kevin P. Kern, Jane Longenecker and Kent Klineman. Seating is limited. Tickets are $75 and can be purchased at the Kingsmen Shakespeare Festival or by calling (805) 493-3455. The festival features Friday, Saturday and Sunday performances of "King Lear" through Aug. 5 in CLU's Kingsmen Park. The Kingsmen Shakespeare Company has brought plays to the community since 1997 during the Kingsmen Shakespeare Festival. The nonprofit professional organization also coordinates apprentice programs for aspiring Shakespearean actors, sponsors Theatre in Education programs in local schools and organizes a summer theater camp for youth.
