Gym open house

Leading Edge Gymnastics will hold a free open house tomorrow, Sat., Aug. 4 at 487 S. Dawson Drive, Camarillo.

Children can play on the equipment and participate in other activities, such as face-painting and games. Food will be available for 50 cents or less. Dance and gymnastics exhibitions will be presented.

Go Hawiian

"Fun with Arts and Music," a weeklong presentation of activities for children entering first through fifth grades, will be from 2:30 to 5:15 p.m. Mon. through Fri., Aug. 6 to 10 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Doris and "F" streets in Oxnard.

There will be workshops on the crafts, dance, drama, singing and rhythm of Hawaii and Pacific Rim cultures. The New West Symphony music van will provide an introduction to orchestral instruments.

Cost is $30 for one child, $55 for two.

Noontime line-up

The Camarillo Noontime Optimist Club meets at noon on Mondays at the Round Table Pizza Parlor on Arneill Road and Ponderosa Drive.

Speakers scheduled for August are Socorro LopezHanson, executive director of Community Action of Ventura County, Aug. 13; Steve Lehman, discussing heart attack prevention, Aug. 20; and Bill Seaver, member, presenting information on the water supply crisis, Aug. 27.

The club will host a food booth during the Concerts in the Park held at City Hall, 601 Carmen Drive. Steve Tyrell will perform tomorrow, Sat., Aug. 4, and Gin Blossoms appear Aug.

18. The movie "Galaxy Quest"

will be screened Sat., Aug. 25.

Scouts 'n suds

Girl Scout Troop 511 will hold a carwash from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sat., Aug. 11 at America's Tires in Carmen Plaza, 323 Carmen Drive, Camarillo.

Suggested donations are $5 for a car and $7 for an SUV, truck or van. Any amount will be accepted.

Funds raised will pay for uniforms for the Scouts, who have just bridged from Brownies to Juniors.
