Eat a steak, tip a cop

Representatives from the Ventura County Sheriff's Department will be the celebrity servers from 5 to 9:30 p.m. Tues., Aug. 7 at Wood Ranch BBQ and Grill, 1101 Daily Drive, Camarillo.

In addition to deputy servers, McGruff the Crime Dog will be on hand to interact with children and offer tips on staying safe. Police K-9s will also be present.

All tax-deductible tips to the deputies will be donated to Special Olympics Ventura County. Special Olympics athletes will assist the deputies in serving the food, and will also be selling raffle tickets and T-shirts.

In the Nickel Raffle, the price of the ticket is a nickel times the ticket's number. Tickets are numbered one through 500, so the highest priced ticket will sell for $25. First prize in the raffle is $500, second prize $250 and third prize $100.

The Tip-a-Cop event is part of the 2007 Law Enforcement Torch Run campaign designed to raise money for the Special Olympics.
