Tourney to benefit Casa Pacifica library

Members of the Camarillo Noontime and Breakfast Rotary clubs will take to the golf links at Spanish Hills Country Club July 23 to raise money for Casa Pacifica's new library.

Stuart Avery and Al Lowe, co-event chairs of the Technicolor Video Services 15th annual Care for Kids Golf Classic, hope to raise $100,000 for the Camarillo-based campus.

Casa Pacifica is an emergency shelter and residential treatment facility for abused, neglected or at-risk children and their families from throughout Ventura County.

Casa Pacifica's on-site school was recently accredited by the state, which requires the facility to have a media center that includes a well-stocked library.

According to Avery, the golf tournament raised nearly $1 million for Casa Pacifica. A lion's share of the money has gone towards Casa Pacifica's media center, an area on the campus with computers, books and other reading material for the youngsters served by the charity.

This year's golf tournament will honor Judge Joe Hadden, an early advocate of the Camarillo facility.

"Every year we recognize someone from the community who has done charity work with one of the local organizations," Avery said. "Hon. Hadden helped start Casa Pacifica from the very beginning."

Cost per player is $395. The tournament, which is expected to attract 144 golfers, will include lunch, prizes and gifts.

Avery said corporate and tee sponsorships are still available. For more information, call (805) 604-1104 or (805) 482-1010.
