Students' tooth-health posters garner prizes

Brett Watanabe, a 10thgrader at Newbury Park High School, won first prize of $150 in First 5 Ventura County's second annual poster contest.

The contest theme was "Healthy Teeth Begin at Birth." Brett's poster shows a baby tooth, with a diaper and a pacifier, held between an adult's fingers.

Runners-up, earning $50 each, are, from Oak Park High School, Shannon Eu, ninth grade; Meghan Toomayan, 10th grade; and Kevin Tung, 11th grade and, from Newbury Park High School, Tuan Nguyen, 12th grade.

A cash prize for the teacher with the most entries went to Anna Lovejoy of Oak Park High School.

Brett's poster will be used to educate the public about the importance of beginning good oral health habits early in a child's life and will be distributed throughout Ventura County.
