Woman pleads no contest to embezzling Jessica Diane Stubblefield, 39, of Camarillo, pleaded no contest to embezzling nearly $3,000 from a foundation she formed for a 7year-old who had been diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2005. Stubblefield solicited funds from people under the pretext that she had formed the "Tommy for Life Foundation," claiming money collected would go to the child's family. Instead, the money went into a business checking account that Stubblefield used to make purchases for herself, according to the district attorney's office. The account was overdrawn and had a negative balance until the bank closed it after Stubblefield continued to make purchases with insufficient funds. She eventually mailed a cashier's check in the amount of $1,632 to the child's family. Stubblefield was sentenced to 50 hours of community service, 50 hours of mental health counseling, three years summary probation and was ordered to pay an additional $600 in restitution. |
